Yarn Along

Shall we call this Death by Lace?  I've never done lace before and this mystery knit along is challenging me to say the least.  I do not want to give up.  But 3 rows forward, 2 rows back is getting old!  Tonight I hope to spend some quiet focused time on it after the kids go to bed.  I've been doing simple patterns for so long.  I know it's time to learn something new and branch out a bit, but this has been frustrating.  Knitting is supposed to be calming, right?  Well, hopefully I'll get it soon and then I'm sure I'll feel quite accomplished.  I do love the support and community on ravelry.com without which I would have surely given up already.

I haven't been reading very much because in my "spare" time I'm obsessed with figuring out my knitting.   I did start this book last week though and it's quite fascinating.  There is something really attractive about the idea of growing all of our own food.  It's made me think we should move out to the country and get some chickens and have a huge garden.  It sounds like such a quiet and peaceful life.  Until you think about the work of it.  And the dirt.  And the living farther away from "civilization" again.  So I think we'll stay put.  We do plan to have a big garden this year though.  The chickens will just have to remain a "dream."  I think I like being clean to much too become a farmer.

I read this book and enjoyed it. I have read books similar to this and talked about them to friends who look at me like I'm crazy. Still Life with Chickens, I think was one. So I just keep them to myself sometimes. It's good to see others who like the ones I like! I've been doing some mindless knitting for awhile and it will probably be that way for a few more months and then I can concentrate better. Keep up the good work! It's looking good!!

Come out and visit us if you want to experience the country and have a taste of raising chickens. Daniel, Mathias, and Josiah do all the work, and on a daily basis it is pretty easy. The mess is when you have an animal get in or you need to clean out the henhouse! The fresh eggs are worth it though. Living in town has its advantages, but after living in the country for 5 years now, I'm not sure if I could go back.

Knitting is supposed to be calming I agree, however, there are times I'm ready to rip my hair out! The book you are reading sounds very interesting and I am putting it on my list!

Don't worry about the Mystery KAL. I'm doing it as well and there is something with clue 1 that seems to give a few people some frogging time. It is not that it is wrong or anything but you need to get the hang of it. I frogged clue 1 completely after about 30 rows and then ripped back several rows twice because I was a bit tired and forgot to do the increases for a few rows... You'll get a very nice shawl in the end for sure!
